Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Have you decided yet how you are going to show the man in your life (or the man you would like to be in your life) how much you love him?

While a card, chocolates or perhaps a bottle of wine are perfectly decent gifts for Valentine’s Day, they aren’t particularly exciting. Perhaps they say, ‘we’ve been together a long time now, we don’t need to make too much of an effort but I love you just the same’. There’s nothing wrong with that at all but if you want to do something that is a little different to surprise your partner, here are a few ideas.

Organise a day out 154026

This need not be an expensive option, and need not even take place on February 14th. Arrange to visit somewhere special and write out an itinerary for your love to give them on the morning of Valentine’s Day. It could be a walk in a park, followed by a pub lunch or afternoon tea somewhere romantic. How about a visit to an art gallery, a local museum or the grounds of a country house?

Give them a special, personalised gift

How many of us keep all our photos digitally these days, rarely getting around to printing any them? Your partner might really appreciate a few special prints of the two of you together. You could even find a company that will make up a photo book for you, packed full of family memories.

Bring back the romance

Treat yourself to some special lingerie. You’ll feel more romantic and you can be sure your partner will not complain. Bonmarche has some lovely wide-leg lace cotton shorts at the moment. They are rather like French cami-knickers and the wide lace band is very feminine and flattering. At only £4, they are not going to break the bank either.

When money is no object

If you are lucky enough not to have to worry too much about the cost, why not whisk your loved one away to see a show in London’s West End followed by a night in good hotel? Dirty Dancing and From Here to Eternity could be just the ticket. Once is a brand new romantic musical which has had good reviews or you could see the incomparable Phantom of the Opera. Lots of travel websites offer meal+ticket+hotel deals and there are still plenty available for Valentine’s Day or the weekend which follows.
