We might be in the middle of winter but in fashion terms spring is almost upon us. Paris, New York and London held their fashion weeks for Spring/Summer 14 back in October and High Street stores will be filling up with their spring ranges very soon. So what trends can we expect to see?
Soft and feminine seems to be the key look for next spring. Lots of girly colours, pinks, baby blues and pastel shades, some lace, full skirts that stop just short of being maxi, bomber jackets and floral prints.
When you feel it is time to update your wardrobe ready for spring, what essential items should you buy?
T-shirts in pastel shades
T-shirts can usually be bought quite cheaply and so there is no excuse not to buy as many as you want. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colours you don’t usually wear. Pastel shades will be everywhere next season from pale pinks, baby blues, soft yellows to minty greens.
Floral prints are gloriously spring-like and it will be lovely to see them back in our stores next spring. A long line, floaty top in a bright floral print will look great and flatter those of us with a fuller figure.
You can look good in jeans whatever your age. Mary Berry often wears them after all on The Great British Bake Off. A new, dark pair will breathe new life into your wardrobe and team beautifully with your new floral top.
The crisp cotton shirt will be making a comeback next spring in light blue or white. They look fabulous over jeans and are very flattering whatever your size or age. Just don’t tuck them in!
Long floaty skirts
This look is very much in keeping with the romantic feel to women’s fashion we will be seeing. Skirts will be midi length, or just below the knee, in floral prints or plain.
Metallic jacquard tops
Metallic fabrics have been with us for a while and they will continue to feature in spring fashion ranges. Metallic jacquard is more forgiving than some of the very shiny metallic that will be around. This softer fabric works well in either a skirt or a top.
Wearing shoes with a low comfortable heel lengthens the leg, instantly making you look and feel more glamorous. Wedge heels are much more comfortable than stiletto heels and work very well with both skirts and tailored trousers.
