After our star designer David Emanuel made the trek back home from his successful stint in the Jungle of ITV’s hit show, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, we just had to hear all about his tales of the wilderness and we knew our loyal customers would feel the same.
So we asked you to send us your questions for David and after some great submissions, we finally have the juicy details you’ve all been waiting for!
Q: Which celeb camp mate would you like to create an outfit for and why?
A: Rebecca. Because having spoken to her at length in the Jungle I know she has difficulty finding clothes to fit her super athletic build. I know I could make her feel fabulous!!
Q: What did you learn most about yourself after your stay in the jungle? Has the experience changed you or made you look at life differently?
A: What I really learnt is the power of the human mind. It’s unbelievable how strong we can be. That experience has given me the confidence to take on anything.
Q: You were very brave, kind and entertaining in the jungle David; it was a well-deserved 2nd place. Did you manage to conquer some of your worst fears while doing those bush trials?
A: I conquered all of my fears!! I had told the ITV show executives that I was afraid of absolutely everything and slightly claustrophobic, but once I did my first trial with millions of cock roaches, I felt ready to take on anything they would throw at me.
Q: David, you were fab! Will you take inspiration from the jungle’s flora & fauna to create a line of outfits for next summer?
A: I can’t say that I’ve come out of the jungle with ideas of doing any jungle inspired collection. However, having had such an amazing life experience I’m sure that you will be able to see some elements of jungle colour and atmosphere coming through in my prints.
Be reassured, Spring/Summer 2014 is looking FABULOUS!!! I can’t wait for you to see it but I’m now moving forward with Autumn/Winter 2014. But you may well be surprised!!
Q: Are you going to write a book on your experience in the jungle and do some signings at larger stores?
A: I don’t know about a book at this point, but I do have many stories to tell, and not just tales of the Jungle!!! As for store signings, stay tuned to Bonmarché social media for any updates as we are planning some exciting things for 2014!
Q: You were great in the jungle, did you enjoy the experience?
A: I had a FABULOUS time!!!!
Q: It was great seeing you with Kian, enjoying the delicacy of your salmon. Which jungle dish surprised you the most for its flavour?
A: I would say Kangaroo steak. It was absolutely delicious and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. I have NO plans to eat either boiled rice or soya beans ever again though.
Q: Was there anything that scared you in the jungle? If there was you hid it well!
A: Rats! I hated the thought of being buried in a coffin with rats like the challenge Royal Correspondent, Jennie Bond faced. Luckily, they didn’t have that this year.
Q: After your illness, where did your energy come from? Also, what was the worst thing you ate while in the jungle?
A: After my cancer surgery I went on a health juice diet to detox after all of the medications. I followed that with a simple healthy diet of freshly prepared meals (no pre-packed), which restored my energy levels. However, I did need to ramp up my fitness once I got into the jungle as it’s hard work going up and down the creek carrying an armful of logs for the camp fire!
Worst thing I ate: It’s got to be the king cricket with the cheese fruit dip. Don’t be fooled by the name ‘cheese fruit’. I may not have shown it, but it was simply disgusting!!
Q: Would you do it all again? Also, would you do other TV reality shows? I love your designs by the way, especially the glitzy tunics that I can wear with leggings.
A: I would most certainly do it again. As for other shows, I would love a crack at Strictly Come Dancing. I’m so pleased to hear you love my collections at Bonmarché.
Q: If you could do it all again, who would you like to do it with?
A: I’d like Kian and I to be back together with possibly Diana Ross, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand. So if we were bored we would sing fabulous songs around the camp fire in five part harmony! And Donny Osmond too, for doing the chores.
Q: What have you done since you came out of the jungle?
A: It’s been a whirlwind of TV and Radio. You may have caught me on This Morning with Phillip and Holly? Now I’m hoping for a little Christmas break!!
Q: What did you enjoy most about being in the jungle?
A: I thoroughly enjoyed each and every day. Every night sleeping under the stars was bliss, I’ve never slept so well!!!
Wow, some great stuff there! Thank you for all your questions, it’s great to hear from you all and we hope you enjoyed David’s answers as much as we did.
Don’t forget to keep an eye out for David’s new collection creeping into stores soon for Spring/Summer 2014! We’d love to know what Bonmarché designs you would wear in the jungle! Would you go practical or fabulous?
